Head Coach – Dallas Hartley

Coach Hartley is in his 2nd year as the  head coach and defensive coordinator of the Chapman program.  In his first season coaching in 2011, the team went 14-4, won the SLC championship, and was an MCLA quarterfinalist.  Chapman placed a school record 4 players on the 1st team All-America (MCLA) team, with a total of 7 players named All MCLA.  Hartley was voted SLC Coach of the Year in 2011.

Coach Hartley was the Head Varsity Coach at La Costa Canyon H.S. in San Diego from 2003 – 2010.  During his tenure, LCC won 7 straight North County Conference Championships, played in 8 straight CIF San Diego championship games, and won 4 CIF titles (‘05, ‘06, ‘08, and ‘10).  La Costa Canyon compiled an overall record of 141-29 and a Conference record of 70-6.  LCC had two undefeated seasons, one in ’05 (24-0) & the other in ’10 (23-0).  Both undefeated seasons led to the #1 ranking in the West and National high school rankings of  #25 & #15 respectively. Coach Hartley mentored 2 State Academic Championship teams for highest team G.P.A. in CA (’09 & ’10), 3 CIF San Diego Players of the Year, 3 San Diego North County Conference Players of the Year, 16 US Lacrosse All-Americans, and was selected CIF San Diego Coach of the Year 4 times and La Costa Canyon H.S. Coach of the Year twice.
        
A 2000 graduate of Sonoma State University, Hartley enjoyed success on the field as well playing in the WCLL conference of the MCLA.  He was named team captain in 2000, earned 1st Team All WCLL in 1998, 1999, & 2000, MCLA 1st Team All-American in 1999 & 2000, and MCLA 1st team All-Tournament in 1999 & 2000 as an LSM for the Cossacks.  Hartley was inducted into the Sonoma State Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2005 and the La Costa Canyon H.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2010.  Hartley began his coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at Sonoma State University in 2001. The SSU team won their first WCLL title in 2001.

Hartley majored in History at Sonoma State with an emphasis in education and earned a teaching credential from National University in 2003.  He is a native of Encinitas, CA and has been teaching Social Science in the San Dieguito Union H.S. District since 2005.  Hartley is married to Annie, has a daughter Tatum and a son Grayson.

Assistant Coach – Ryan Berger

Coach Berger is in his 2nd year as an assistant coach and will take over as the Offensive Coordinator and Attack coach for the Panthers in 2012.  Berger is a Philadelphia native where he was a 4 year Varsity Attackman at powerhouse Conestoga High School.  He is the only person in school history to lead the team in Goals, Assists, and Points as a sophomore, junior, and senior.  He garnered All State accolades his final two seasons and is one of only two players in Conestoga history to be named team MVP twice.  Coach Berger went on to star as a 4 year starter at DIII Denison University in Ohio where he played under a four time All-American attackman from UVA and former team USA assistant coach Mike Caravana.  As a freshman on a team that made the Final Four for the first time in school history, he was named Co-Rookie of the year and earned 2nd team All-League.  As a sophomore he was named 1st Team All-League, All American, and Offensive Team MVP.  As a junior, the team again returned to the Final Four and he was again named 1st Team All-League and All American.  In his final season at Denison he was named team captain, again earned 1st Team All-League, All American, and Offensive Team MVP finishing with a career 194 points good for 5th in school history.  Coach Berger was the Offensive Coordinator at LMU from 2006 – 2010.  Coach Berger resides in Costa Mesa with his wife Cherstin and his son Tyler who was born last spring during our season.

Assistant Coach – Jason Leneau

Coach Leneau joins the Panthers in 2012 for his first year as an assistant coach and will work with the midfield and face-off units.  Leneau is a Baltimore native where he was a 3 sport Varsity athlete at Boys Latin.  A captain at BL his senior year, he played long stick midfield for legendary coach Bob Shriver.  His junior season the team had a perfect 17-0 record and Boys Latin won the MIAA championship finishing as the # 1 ranked h.s. team in the nation.  He was also an All-County running back on the football team and All-State and All-American wrestler.  He went on to the University of Virginia to play lacrosse for coach multiple national championship coach Dom Starsia and he also wrestled for the Cavs.  He showcased his skill as a Face-Off Specialist and Defensive Midfielder for a Virginia team that won two back-to-back ACC championships in ’99 and ’00, appeared in 3 Final Fours, and won the NCAA National Championship in ’99.  Coach Leneau’s coaching career began at his Alma Mater where he was an assistant coach for both the JV and Varsity squads at Boys Latin.  Moving to Orange County in 2005 he played professionally in the MLL for the L.A. Riptide in ’06 & “07, and in the LXM Pro tour in ‘08.  From ’05–’11 he has been the Offensive Coordinator and Face-Off coach at St. Margaret’s.  Teaching Life Science and P.E., he also served as the school’s strength and conditioning coordinator for all sports and is looking to pursue a Masters at Chapman in Health.  Out of season, Leneau runs and coaches at multiple lacrosse camps around the country and resides in Laguna Niguel.

Assistant Coach – Daniel Kirkpatrick

Coach Kirkpatrick is back for his 3rd season as an assistant coach at his almamater as and assistant Defensive and Goalie coach.  A standout Goalie for 2 time CIF Champion Foothill H.S. in Tustin, Kirkpatrick went on to be a 4 year starter in Goal at Chapman from ’06 – ’09, finishing with a 60% save percentage and 554 saves.  Kirkpatrick resides in Orange.
